GOVERNANCE

The Middle East Cancer Consortium (MECC) is a unique partnership comprising:

  • Cyprus
  • Egypt
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Palestinian Authority (Gaza and West Bank)
  • Turkey

Oversight of MECC activities is vested in its:

  • Board of Governors
  • Cancer Registry Project (CRP) Steering Committee
  • Palliative Care Project (PCP) Steering Committee

Board of Governors
The Board of Governors oversees development and implementation of Consortium initiatives and meets annually.

The board includes one representative from each participating jurisdiction and the United States:

  • Charitini Komodiki, Cyprus
  • To be determined, Egypt
  • Avi Israeli, Israel
  • Adel Belbesi, Jordan
  • To be determined, Palestinian Authority
  • Murat Tuncer, Turkey
  • Joe Harford, United States of America (ex officio)
  • Michael Silbermann, MECC (ex officio)

CRP Steering Committee
The CRP Steering Committee monitors the progress of cancer registry activity in each member jurisdiction. Specifically, the committee:

  • Reviews data collection and analysis procedures
  • Identifies and resolves data standardisation issues
  • Oversees the registry training programme

Each of the five registries presents an annual progress report to the CRP Steering Committee. The committee meets yearly.

The committee includes several representatives from each participating jurisdiction and the United States:
