MIDDLE EAST CANCER CONSORTIUM:
Registries supported by MECC:

Israel

Background
Israel established the Israel National Cancer Registry (INCR) more than 40 years ago and joined MECC in 1996.

Statistics
It is estimated that 9,000 of 35,000 deaths each year are due to cancer. In 2000, the crude incidence rate for Israeli Jews is 380 per 100,000, and the age-standardized rate (ASR, World Standard Population) is 310 per 100,000. For non-Jewish Israelis, the crude incidence rate is 100 per 100,000 and ASR is 170 per 100,000. Although the non-Jewish population comprises 15% of the total population of Israel, it accounts for only 3% of cancer cases.
