MIDDLE EAST CANCER CONSORTIUM:
Cancer Registry Project

Training in Cancer Registration

MECC began an education and training programme in 1998 to teach registry staff the standards specified in the Manual of Standards for Cancer Registration. MECC has offered several courses since the project began. Training emphasises the methods required to achieve high levels of accuracy in data abstracting and coding.

MECC, via the U.S. National Cancer Institute, will continue to offer one regular training course and one advanced training course per year in the Middle East.

Additional efforts will be made to carry out appropriate educational programmes or refresher courses to already trained registrars and hospital staff who are closely associated with the registry project in their own countries.

Prof. Amal Samy Ibrahim (NCI Cairo) and Dr. Nabiel Nazmi Hanna Mikhail (South Egypt Cancer Institute) recently conducted a course on "Epidemiology and Statistics for Clinicians and Paramedical Personnel" in Ankara, Turkey (April 3-4, 2006). Full details are available here.
